2017 Event Rules and Conditions

  1. All entries must be postmarked or emailed (no faxes) by February 15, 2017. No entries will be accepted at the event.
  2. Western dress code will be enforced. Long sleeved shirts, western hats or helmets, jeans, and western foot apparel is required. Contestants must be wearing hats/helmets when they enter the competition area.
  3. If a horse is not reported during check in hours, that entry will be disqualified, unless prior arrangements were made with the show secretary.
  4. Running order will be drawn for the 1st Go Round of the Futurity. The 2nd Go Round will be in reverse order of the 1st Go Round with the drags staying in the same same places. The Short Go Round will be a random draw for running order.
  5. Minimum of the top 40 fast times from the Futurity and top 20 times from the derby will advance to the Short Go Round.
  6. If a horse is run out of order, it will be disqualified.
  7. There will be an arena judge at all times. Judges’ decisions are final.
  8. There will be a drag after every 5 numbers and a big drag after every 50.
  9. Contestants must be ready when called. Failure to be in position in the holding area will result in a disqualification. Contestants must be in holding pen during your drag.
  10. Reruns will be given only in the event of a time malfunction. If a rerun is given, it will be up to the judge and the contestant to decide when the rerun will take place. Reruns will not be given for contestant equipment breaking or for a rider’s decision to pull up.
  11. Contestants MUST maintain forward motion once in the alley way. Turning around will result in a disqualification.
  12. All pets must be kept on leashes at all times.
  13. Futurity entries are open to all horses that were foaled in 2013 or after and have not competed in any barrel competition prior to Dec 1, 2016.
  14. Horse substitutions will be allowed until February 15, 2017. The charge for a substitution will be $50 if both horses have the same owner. Otherwise the fee will be $150. Absolutely NO horse substitutions after February 15, 2017.
  15. If a contestant’s barrels or timers are misplaced, that contestant will be given a rerun at the conclusion of the round.
  16. All Futurity, Derby, Open 5D and Sweepstakes horses MUST present current coggins papers and have horse checked in and numbered before competing.
  17. Only Youth and Junior contestants will be allowed rollovers.

Facility Rules and Conditions

  1. All vehicles must stay off of grass areas. The facility has plenty of paved parking.
  2. Hook ups are available, but limited.
  3. Vendor booths are the only outlets where merchandise/services may be sold. All other retail transactions are strictly prohibited.
  4. Diamonds & Dirt Barrel Horse Classic™ and Extraco Events Center are expressly released and discharged from any and all liabilities, loss, injury or damage to persons or property. Attendees must adhere to all guidelines of both Diamonds & Dirt and Extraco Events Center. No exceptions will be made.
  5. UNDER TEXAS LAW (CHAPTER 87, CIVIL PRACTICE AND REMEDIES CODE), A FARM ANIMAL PROFESSIONAL IS NOT LIABLE FOR AN INJURY TO OR THE DEATH OF A PARTICIPANT IN FARM ANIMAL ACTIVITIES RESULTING FROM THE INHERENT RISKS OF FARM ANIMAL ACTIVITIES.

Futurity Rules

  • Futurity will be 2 Long Go Rounds and a Short Go Round. Short Go will be determined by fastest qualifying times. Short Go time will be added to qualifying time to determine event champion.
  • 40 fastest qualifying times will advance to the Short Round.
    If there are more than 350 entries, more finalists will be taken.
  • Futurity open to horses foaled 2012 or later.
  • Horses must not have competed in any type of barrel race competition prior to December 1, 2016.
  • 75% payback of entry fees, 100% of added money.
  • Futurity open to all breeds.
  • To request Futurity substitutions, contact Ross Wright*.
  • No refunds will be given for any reason.
  • Stall is included in Futurity entry fee.
  • Amateur contestants MUST include a current copy of AQHA or APHA amateur card and meet all Diamonds & Dirt™ requirements.
  • No entry that has not been paid in full will be allowed to run.
  • No checks or credit cards will be accepted at the show office.
